Etkin's background focuses in on his passion for the arts, education, and community development. He is known for being a mentor to aspiring artists, leading innovative cultural opportunities in Memphis, and having a unique artistic vision. He's been noted as an, "Imaginative Leader."

Formerly Cooper Street Gallery ('89-'99), Jay Etkin Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, Jay Etkin Gallery in Downtown Memphis ('99-'08), currently in Cooper Young. In addition to showcasing local, regional, and international artists, as well as ethnographic works, the gallery hosts a variety of charity events, film screenings, ballet and opera performances, weddings, corporate events, and more.

The Memphis Museum of Tribal and Visionary Art

2016-present

Museum Founder & Future CEO

​

Museum devoted to ethnographic art, with a focus on African and Latin American art forms. The development of a group of cultural centers/satellite locations that will impact many communities in Memphis. Programming for children, young adults, researchers, and college students. The satellite locations will be located in Orange Mound, Binghamton, and Soulsville. Etkin's team includes the Memphis Library System, University of Memphis, Rhodes College, LeMoyne Owen College, Memphis City Schools, and various community centers around Memphis. Memphis Museum Learning Center allows for students and researchers have closer experiences with the museum's collections.
