ABOUT

My professional history in the Arts spans well over four and a half decades. I am an arts advocate, a gallerist, a painter, a collector of Contemporary and Ethnographic Art, a community activist, a neighborhood builder through the Arts, an Educator, an art consultant, a museum developer, and an artist coach and mentor. I have been exhibiting steadily since 1970…with collections in Europe, Japan, Israel, Canada, and throughout the United States.

My brief bio includes growing up in NYC. I started painting as a small boy; graduating from Brooklyn College (Brooklyn, NY) in 1971 with a BA in Fine Arts and Education; apprentice and studio assistant to Realist painter, Philip Pearlstein; running outreach programs for "at-risk" kids since the early 70’s; teaching; illustrating; running galleries and alternative spaces for many decades; collaborating with the dance and theater
communities, as well as writers, musicians, and filmmakers.

I arrived in Memphis in 1983 for an Exhibition at the old Art Academy (now the Memphis College of Art). I was well received and quickly made many friends. I rented a Midtown studio that year with the idea of staying in Memphis for three months to paint and get acquainted with the ‘South’. I was indeed inspired and eventually moved here full time. I have supported Charitable Organizations over the years including the Alzheimer’s Association, LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Boys and Girls Clubs, and
many others.

I am known for my live painting performances and my installation art as well. I am an active art consultant for corporations and have had an emphasis on Hospital and Bank environments. I regularly teach "professional practices" for the local art community and the College of Art. I am extremely generous with my time in supporting the greater Memphis community. I am a long term Memphian and very passionate about this city.
